Step-by-step configure & use screenr
Goal
The goal of a tester is to uncover any errors that might be taking place in the software. To do this you need to take HATS many times.
Read this entire document. It should take 5 – 10 minutes. It’s mostly pictures, actually.
It will outline how to communicate errors to us.
Summary
Getting setup is simple:
1. Create a screenr account that you can use exclusively for this purpose (use a username and password you feel comfortable sharing)
2. Send us your user name/password
Testing works like this:
1. Take HATS & record using screenr every time (This will keep a running record of every time you used the software). Make sure that you configure screener to include your entire screen and the clock in the bottom right corner. Title each subsequent video using the format Last name_first initial test_1. So for me it would be Morgenstern_M_test_1, Morgenstern_M_test_2, etc. If there is an error you can include this in the title, for example, Morgenstern_M_test_3-results formatting error.
2. If an error is discovered email us an error report in the specified manner to [email protected]. In subject include the video name
3. Include
A. a very concise (a few lines) description of the error taking place
B. a link to the video showing the error
C. the time in the video when the error becomes apparent
D. System information including operating system & version, browser & version
(note: the maximum video length is 5 minutes–this should be more than enough time to go through HATS).
Step-by-step configure & use screenr
Step 1: Go to http://www.screenr.com/ and click “Record”Pictures:
Step 2: Check the box that says “I accept the risk and want to run this application” and click “Run”
Step 3: When it asks if you want to block potentially unsafe components from being run, select “Don’t Block”
Step 4: Adjust the size of the video capture to cover as much of your screen as possible. Try to include the clock on your computer so we can see what time you did the testing. To begin recording, click the red circle the left arrow on the screenshot below. If your computer has a microphone it will record your audio too, unless you click the little triangle by the right arrow so it points up.

Step 5: When you finish recording, click the green button that says “DONE.” What you need to record will be explained later.
Step 6: At the bottom of this page where it says “Login to publish your screencast”, click the appropriate link to log in with either your Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo, LinkedIn, or Windows Live ID account. I use .
Step 7: Login with your Google account in the pop-up window.
Step 8: Repeat Step 2
Step 9: Type a description of the video. For purposes of testing HATS your name and sequential numbering should be fine. For example, I might title my video “Batemarco Test 01”. If any errors are detected try and include them in the title as well, for example, “Batemarco Test 01 – Summary Report not working”. After naming the video, click the “Publish” button.
Step 10: Repeat Step 3.
After the blue bar at the bottom loads, you should be able to share your video with anyone by simply sharing the URL.

Always test for this:
1) Make sure the results generated by HATS are the same results that appear on the report afterwards.
2)Test the page that brings you to HATS. Make sure it actually requires the required fields, make sure it only accepts valid e-mail addresses, etc. Also make sure the name you give appears on the report.
3) Make sure the appropriate references and endnotes are given on the report.
4) Watch out for any technical errors. Look for anything that might crash the website or disrupt the survey (such as a message that says “you have been timed out”)
5) Obviously this is not an all inclusive list but some of the areas where we expect potential errors.
