- Paragraphs should flow well with each other
- Make sure your paragraphs are organized by topic
- Open each paragraph with a good topic sentence
- Break down long paragraphs into sub-paragraphs
- Preceding sentence/paragraph should flow well with the next (transition)
- Average person should easily understand your writing
- Use language that is simple & makes sense to your audience
- Clarify and explain hard terminology i.e. diseases
- Article must have an introduction & conclusion
- Keep sentences short
Avoid
- Spelling errors
- Submit paper without reading it at least 3 times
- Long paragraphs/sentences
- Incomplete sentences
- Using vague descriptions
- Using incorrect punctuation (comma, period, semicolon)
- Using a passive voice
